If you’d like to improve your ranking in the major search engines, such as Google or Yahoo, it’s important that you have some quality links from other websites.   It’s best if the other website is popular (receives a lot of traffic), is relevant to your website (related industry or interests) and is a site that also has a lot of content (instead of  just a collection of links to other sites).

Let’s walk through an example.  If I have a website selling kites in the gorge, I might want to convince these websites to link to mine:

• Kite Fan Sites
• Local Chambers of Commerce
• Regional portals and search engines, such as GorgeSearch.com or a2zgorge.info.
• Material Suppliers
• You Tube (put a video of your kites in action)
• Facebook and other social networking sites
• Other local outdoor sport sites
